Physical-Layer Network Coding Enhanced Visible Light Communications Using RGB LEDs

Visible light communications (VLC) is a good candidate technology for the 6th generation (6G) wireless communications. Red, green, and blue (RGB) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based VLC has become an important research branch due to its low price high reliability. However, saturation of photodiode (PD) caused by ambient background may seriously degrade bit error rate (BER) performance RGB-VLC system's three spatially uncoupled information streams (i.e., red, LEDs can transmit different data packets simultaneously) in practical applications. To mitigate interference point-to-point systems, we propose, PNC-VLC, network-coded scheme that uses two with same color at transmitter make use naturally overlapped signals receiver formulate physical-layer network coding (PNC). The adaptivity PNC-VLC could effectively improve BER degradation problem PD under influence light. We conducted simulations on parameters commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products prove superiority four typical illuminants. Simulation results show system maintain better more stable conditions. Remarkably, 2/3 throughput efficiency, bring 133.3% gain when compared Illuminant A model, making it option applications unpredictable interferences.
